The legal process will be explained in advance of your delivery. Forty-eight (48) hours after the birth, a Caring Adoptions Staff member will assist you as you sign a Voluntary Relinquishment of Parental Rights Document.
If the Birthfather's rights have not been previously addressed, the Staff will complete the appropriate legal requirements. If the Birthfather is your legal or common-law husband, he must wait 48 hours after the birth to sign a Voluntary Relinquishment of Parental Rights Document.
If the Birthfather is not legally recognized as your husband, he can sign a "Waiver of Interest" at any point before or after the birth. These documents officially appoint Caring Adoptions as the Managing Conservator (legal parent) of your child.
Caring Adoptions believes in early placement with Adoptive Parents to encourage bonding. Once the child is discharged from the hospital, they will be placed with the Adoptive Parents. This usually happens immediately after the relinquishments are signed.
In compliance with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, financial and day-to-day assistance will continue for six weeks after birth. During this period, Caring Adoptions will provide all agreed-upon support outlined in your Individualized Adoption Plan.
At the appropriate time, we will represent you in Court for the termination of parental rights. You may exchange pictures and updates with the Adoptive Family through our office, or directly if both parties agree.
